SUPERNATURAL  TV Series on the CW

(Work in Progress)  Last updated 10/7/07

Okay, since I am like totally obsessed with this show and it looks like the Muse is going to force me to do some fan fiction, I figured that as I watched the episodes yet again, I would take notes on the things revealed about the characters in each and make a list.  I am hoping this nifty list will help me and any other authors and fans wishing to write fan fiction in the Supernatural world to have the bits we need to do it right.  If all else fails, it will help you narrow down the frame of mind of the charas around that time frame. :P

Dean, Sam, John, Mary, Jessica, Bobby, Meg, Impala, Episodes, Clothes, Other Info Sites, My Fan Fiction

Dean Winchester

Stats - 6'1" Born 1/24/79 Light Brown Hair, Hazel Eyes - weapon of choice Colt 1911

Mannerisms - smirks, raises eyebrows, licks lips, sweeps hand over face or chin when bothered/confounded

1.1 Pilot - Age 26.  Drives a '67 Chevy Impala.  Hasn't spoken to Sam in 2 years.  Dad is missing, and though he has done jobs alone, he doesn't want to look for their father on his own.  The dark is not safe.  Womanizer - yet he kept his eyes on Jess's face the whole time, no roving eyeballs..  His mother is very dear to him.  Calls Sam - Sammy.  Dean almost hits Sam for what he perceives as disrespect - this will be turned around and Dean use the conversation against Sam toward the end of season 1.

1.2 Wendigo - has never asked Sam to drive.  Defers to his father's judgment in all things.  Can lie smooth as silk.  Wears a demon head necklace.  Smacks Sam for emphasis.  Smart mouth.  States he is not normally honest with women.  Thinks of hunting as the "Family Business".  Has the patience of a true hunter.  Deals with the anger of his mother's murder by helping others not have to live through what they did.  Can twirl double guns. Always volunteers to put himself in harm's way.  Diffuses his attraction to Haley by "cheapening the moment" - commitment and getting close to people issues.  Hates camping.

1.3 Dead in the Water - States that he spent every day with Dad for the 2 years Sam went to college.  Since Sam has been gone 4 years, I am thinking he means the first 2 Sam was gone.  We also know from 1.1 that Dean has done solo missions, so this was a little wonky.  Dean will put up with attitude for so long before slamming down and asking point blank what is going on.  Good with kids.  We see the silver ring and 2 bracelets with a bead?  After the death of his Mom, Dean also did not speak from fear.  Decided Mary would want him to be brave so he moved past that.  Sam never knew this.  What do you teach a kid who only started talking again "Zepeling Rules".  Feels he must always go armed.  Can't draw worth spit.

1.4 Phantom Traveler - Phobia of flying.  Sleeps with a knife under his pillow.  Super mechanically inclined - has created his own EMF meter from an Ipod.  Hums Metallica when he needs to be calm.

1.5 Bloody Mary - Darn good at poker and hustling in general.  Hates to sugar coat things.  Though they may not hug often, the brothers are very physical, more smacking in this ep. :P  Calls Sam, Sammy again and when Sam balks, he smacks him.  Takes down to local cops easy as pie!  When Sam is hurt by Bloody Mary, Dean instantly goes right to him and helps him up checking him over - Sam's well being is top priority.

1.6 Skin - Doesn't believe in getting close to people.  From the shape shifter who has access to all of Dean's memories, we learn that Dean had to stay home and be with their Dad.  That he needed him - and where the heck was Sam.  Some possible resentment/jealousy at the fact Sam got to go to college and pursue his dreams, have friends, live life - yet wants this for him as well.  Yet Dean also knows he is a freak and it doesn't bother him.  Deep seated belief that sooner or later he will lose everyone. (Lost Mom, Dad is missing, add in Cassie from a later ep...)  Very hurt by the fact he did everything his father ever told him and yet the latter left him without a word or explanation. (Like he wasn't trusted enough to be told what was going on?)

1.7 Hookman - Believes his Dad doesn't want to be found.  He is the plan man.  Dean digs the first grave and does the body burning.  Watches Sam make a move on the girl and approves - first hint he wants Sam to move on with his life and wishes him happiness.  Suggests Sam stays, putting himself in a backseat position.

1.8 Bugs - Feels that rocky relationship between Sam and their Dad was because of Sam being out of line.  He's fun and easy.  Watches Oprah.  1st grazing incident, though we never saw him eat any food.  :P  Hint of Dean believing firmly in their family and it meaning everything to him saying "I'll take our family over normal any day."  Thinks bow hunting is an important skill.  Really enjoys steam showers.  Hustles at pool.  Kids should stick with their family.  Wearing multiple bound black bracelets.  Doesn't think Sam respects their father enough.  Called a liar by an old Indian man.  Doesn't believe in telling normals the truth, they will think you're nuts (He knows this from experience see Route 66).  A warrior.

1.9 Home - Drinks coffee.  Swore he would never go back home.  Remembers the fire and carrying out baby Sam out the front door.  (Sam didn't know he did this.)  Dean feels his father's friend betrayed him 22 years ago - that he should have stuck by him rather than tattle to Social Services.  Sees Mary when she manifests for them in the house.  Is told by Missouri that he was a goofy looking kid.  Also says "he means well, he's just not the sharpest tool in the shed."  Hugs Sam after saving him from the strangling power cord.  Missouri thinks his EMF detector is amateur stuff.  (Professional envy? Heh.)

1.10 Asylum - Has never heard of method acting.  Sends Sam to take the normals out, while he goes to hunt the bad guy.  Normal process.  Doesn't question the fact JW has only contacted them to send them on a job.  Dad sent it, we do it.  Believes in "Don't ask, don't tell."  "Who's the hotter psychic? Patricia Arquette (Medium), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer), or you?"  Lectures the normals about not going to haunted places.  Under the influence of Dr Ellicott's power Sam declares that "Your the good little soldier. You follow order without question.  Are you that desperate for Dad's approval?"  He might have something there too. :P  When tired, can sleep like the dead, not hearing the phone ring.

1.11 Scarecrow - Takes his father's orders without batting an eye.  Does all the research on this one with the names JW gave them.  He's shocked at Sam's reticence to do as they've been told.  Gets accused of having blind faith in their father and never questioning anything.  He says he is only being a good son.  Dad knows best.  Tells Sam he is a selfish bastard.  "You just do whatever you want.  Not caring what anyone thinks."  He looks torn between Sam and the job, he goes with the job/Dad.  Almost calls Sam a few hours later but doesn't.  (Obviously both are not happy with the way things turned out.)  Uses the word "fugly".  First instance of asking for pie!  Openly admits that Sam's puppy dog look can make people swallow anything he says.  He gets run out of town by the Sheriff.  Tries to apologize to Sam over the phone about the fight - very hard for him, swallows, grimaces, stumbles - Sam gets it all the same.  He lets his brother know he feels he's right.  That he has to do his own thing, live his own life.  "You've always known what you wanted and went after it."  He implies that he doesn't know.  He wishes he could stand up to their father more like Sam does.  He admires Sam for it.  He's proud of Sam.  He's letting his brother go for the second time in their lives.  Dean gets girl appreciation this round.  Hoses up Sam's tender moment with him at the end -- "Hold me, Sam.  That was beautiful.".

1.12 Faith - Dean protects - he covers the retreat.  When told he's dying, he seems to take it in stride - just part of the job - he just drew the short straw - end of story.  Nothing you can do, it's inevitable.  Wants Sam to go ahead and leave town, that there's work he needs to do, but that he'd better take care of the car or he'll haunt him.  Fabric Softener Bear - wants to hunt it down and kill it.  After a few days, he checks himself out of the hospital - says he refuses to die in a place where the nurses aren't even hot - probably more worried about Sam and his insistence he can find a way to help Dean.  Calls Sam a lying Bastard when he finds out Sam's brought him to a faith healer.  He liked being grounded in reality - seeing is believing.  Instantly perked up by the sight of a cute girl.  Though he is weak, he doesn't want Sam babying him and will gruffly push his attentions away.  He's 27 in this episode.  He felt wrong when he was healed - he was cold and he saw an old man.  Knows something is not right, though he is now totally healthy again.  Dean balked at being chosen for healing - Why me?  Roy - the lord guides me.  I looked into your heart and you stood out from all the rest.  He tells Dean he saw that he was a young an with an important purpose, one with a job to do that wasn't finished.  (Almost as if Roy is being given vision though his healing powers come from elsewhere.)  "Why do you deserve to live more than my daughter?"  A question Dean asks of himself for the rest of the episode.  (Signs of his low self esteem?)  He takes his guilt out on Sam by telling him he should have never brought him there.  He feels Layla deserved to be healed more than him.  "May God save us from half the people who think they are doing God's work."  When he is approached by the Reaper, Dean didn't try to run.  Felt he deserved to die?  At the end, he doesn't feel they did the right thing.  Layla's whole view at the end amazes him - You can't have faith just when miracles happen.  You need it more for when they don't.  Dean says he is not much of the praying type, but that he will pray for her.  She feels that's a miracle right there.

1.13  Route 666 - Met Cassie during a job is Athens, OH.  She was just finishing college there.  They went out for a couple of weeks.  Once he told her the truth, she clamped uptight, called Dean Nuts.  When they first got the call from Cassie, Dean stated that she would have NEVER called if she didn't need their help.  First time Dean had ever fallen so hard for anyone.  Felt he had to tell her the truth.  Believes it was totally stupid to get that close, and that he never will again with anyone.  Won't admit he loves her or how badly she hurt him.  Whenever he comes close to emotional vulnerability, Dean backs off.  He really tried hard to make their relationship work.  He couldn't lie to her even as the whole thing scared him.  He figures if they get together they will be working things out till they are 90.  Absolutely still in love with her.  Dean uses himself as bait to lead the monster truck away, leaving Sam to figure out a way to get rid of it.  Wants to throttle Sam when he finds out that failure of his plan had never occurred to him.  When talking to Cassie about a possible relationship (as she sees little hope in it), he tells her he's seen a lot of stranger things happen.  Poor Dean basically gets dumped again.

1.14 Nightmare - Dean is worried about Sam's dream visions.  Becomes even more so as they start happening when Sam is awake.  Dean Grazig Incident #2 - boy loves food!  Very adept at dismantling and cleaning all types of weaponry.  Tells Sam his weird vision/powers do not freak him out at all - he's totally lying.  Has the presence of mind to clean up after themselves to leave no evidence of being near a crime scene.  Doesn't believe their family is cursed, only that it has some dark spots.  Wants to off Max as he doesn't want him hurting anyone else, but Sam argues that Max is a human being, not one of the Supernatural creatures they normally kill. Dean places himself in front of Max's step-mom to safeguard her from Max - warrior defending the weak.  Despite Sam's misgivings about his powers, Dean assures him that as long as he's around nothing bad will happen to him.

1.15 The Benders - Dean's favorite Godzilla movie is Godzilla vs. Mothra.  He hated the Godzilla remake.  He's quite good at darts.  He thinks Sam's a party pooper - grandma.  When Sam disappears, slow panic rises, but he's still thinking.  He thinks that if Sam drinks 2 beers he's doing Karaoke.  (Mild way of saying Sam can't hold his liquor? Heh.)  Tells the cop Sam is his cousin and that he pulled him from a fire and has felt responsible for him ever since.  It's his job to keep him safe.  Pieces of lies and truth.  He's dead sure that if they don't find Sam fast, they won't be able to find him at all.  "Demons I get, people are crazy."  Think Sam must be getting rusty to be jumped and taken down by normals.  (Of course this gets worse for him as he gets whacked by a 13 year old girl.) :P  Gets a hot poker through coat - this shoulder is unlucky!  Dean gets hurt in the same place in season 2. "Never do that again, go missing like that.  You do it again and I won't go looking for you."  Yeah right! Softy!

1.16 Shadow - When Meg accuses him of treating Sam like luggage, Dean is shocked/freaked.  He's unhappy Sam bitched about him to a stranger.  Asks Sam if he really thinks he's bringing him against his will.  Dean's ego flares!  Meg wasn't into him at all!  Like this proves something is not right with the world. :P  Teases Sam about him wanting some action.  Doesn't think the can do this job alone and leaves a message on their father's voicemail.  Not a book reader.  Dean acts surprised that Sam would think of going back to school when they kill the demon.  On his side, he says he would continue to hunt.  That there would still be things out there that need killing -- this will never be over.  Admits he came and got Sam from Stanford because he was hoping to put the family together again.  He's saddened as Sam tells him he will someday have to let him go his own way.  Surprised that Meg is aware of their presence at the warehouse, before she tells them she'd set this up all along.  More surprised to find out they are bait for their Dad.  Disgusted by her actions.  Give Sam love advice - he should not date crazy women.  Dean is totally overjoyed to see their father again.  After greeting John with a hug, he hangs back to see the reaction between Sam and John, now that after four years he finally has them back face to face.  Apologizes to his father for having left the message, that it turned out to be a set up.  Two occasions of Jinx with Sam. Dean is actually weepy when Sam and his father make up.  Culmination of something he's wanted for four years.  Horrified when they are attacked as things were going so well.  Dean carries their father out then tells Sam he can't stay with them.  He feels they almost got him killed, that Meg is right and they are his weakness.  It tears him up to admit this, bringing tears to his eyes, as he asks Sam to agree.

1.17 Hellhouse - Dean begins a rapidly escalating set of practical jokes on Sam.  He puts a spoon in Sam's mouth while he is a sleep and takes a picture with his cell phone then cranks the music super loud to jerk him awake.  From Sam's reaction, looked like the spoon had something not so good on it too.  Dean is giggling like a four year old.  Tells Sam to bring it on, when the latter warns that things will escalate.  Dean thinks local websites are all bunk.  Freaks at Sam's weird fact knowledge - why you never get laid.  Hates to agree with authority figures of any kind!  (Except his father - no choice there. :P )  Dean is also amused by amateurs.  Dean puts itching powder in Sam's clothes while he's taking a shower.  Hates rats.  Blue Oyster Cult logo is what finally give Deans an idea on where all this started - the symbol seemed familiar to him but was driving him nuts because he couldn't place it.  Can be very sarcastic.  He does not dispute he's a bad boy. :P  Dean does have geek limits - won't do action figures in original packaging.  Can also play Good Cop, Bad Cop.  Loves annoying the heck out of Sam - older brother prerogative?  Thinks Sam is way too tense all the time.  Dean is the one who forges papers and ID's.  Normally takes point.  Looks to Sam when he has no ideas.  Has the McGuyver touch.  Doesn't know what RPG is.  Dean puts dead fish in the geeks' car.  He loves Sam's joke on the geeks.

Sam (Samuel) Winchester

Stats 6'4" Born 5/2/83 Dark Brown Hair, Hazel Eyes - weapon of choice Taurus PT99

Mannerisms - huffs, pouts, frowns, serious, smacks brother

1.1 Pilot - Left home at 18 after a huge argument with his father - JW told him never to come back.  Current age 22.  Swore he'd given up hunting.  His father gave him a .45 when he declared he was afraid of the thing under the bed.  Trained since he was a kid in knives, combat, and weapons.  Passed his LSAT with a 174 out of 180 (This puts him at a 99.53%!)  Planned to be a lawyer.  College interview on 11/3/05.  Likes chocolate chip cookies.  Living with Jess in a white two story apartment complex - right hand corner upstairs.  Has at least one other friend at school. Smacks Dean in the back of the head in unhappiness.  Tells Dean not to call him "Sammy" that he hasn't been Sammy since he was a chubby 12 year old.  Does not stop Dean.

1.2 Wendigo - Mired by guilt for not being able to protect Jess or ever having told her the truth (plus other things not revealed till later) - plagued by nightmares.   He and Dean dug for info on what killed Jess for a week at Stanford.  Sam can lie as smooth as silk when he puts his mind to it.  Rolls eyes at Dean's libido.  Normally not the "Shoot first ask questions later" type but is currently doing that due to stress.  (Dean is more this type.)  Very coiled.  Can be very single minded and focused - just like their father.  Total softy - he might complain about things but always comes through.  Protects their charges while Dean plays as bait/distraction.  Hates camping.

1.3 Dead in the Water - we see that Sam can be a real people person.  Sheriff gives the talking down to Sam as if he perceives him as the one with intelligence/sense. :P

1.4 Phantom Traveler - Still plagued by nightmares, lives with fear - one of the reasons he craves a normal life.  Surprised his father talked about him to clients and that it was in a good way.  Can be soft, but also very sharp and hard with words and demeanor when called for.

1.5  Bloody Mary - Dean may hustle the money, but Sam keeps it.  Superstitious - quite funny when he refers to BM as "You know who".  Sam's precog dreams about Jessica are revealed.  Sam wanted to be normal.  Loads of guilt about having had the dreams and not done anything about them.  Sees Jessica at the end of the episode at a street corner in a long white nightgown.  States he would die for Dean, but he will not tell him everything.

1.6  Skin - We learn Sam had at least 3 close friends (1 shown in 1.1 and 2 in 1.6) as well as Jessica in college.  He is still keeping in contact with friends through email.  Very observant.  Says deep down he never really fit in at college.  Feels like an outsider.

1.7 Hookman - Sam prays.  He's the researcher of details.  Sorority parties are not his scene - more comfortable at the library.  Straight A student.  He feels he is cursed as people around him keep dying.  (He is NOT wrong!  Proven over and over. )

1.8 Bugs - Always felt his Dad was always all over his case.  Rather get to play soccer than learn bow hunting.  Sam smacks Dean when Dean makes them spend the night in a house under construction (House Squatting) as he rolls the car into the garage.  Very honest.  He believes Dean is their father's Perfect Son.  Feels their Dad has always been disappointed in him.  Was glad to escape to college and get away from Dad.  Sam respects his father but also feels that no matter what he did, it was never good enough.  He didn't want to bow hunt or hustle people, he just wanted to go to school and be normal - not a freak.  Doesn't think their father actually ever wants to see him again.  Realizes from Dean that their father is not the only one who could have made a gesture to reconcile.  Wants to apologize to JW, to let him know he knows their father was doing the best he could.  Also knows they will probably fight again.

1.9 Home - Episode where we learn Sam has precognitive visions.  He dreamed about Jessica's death several times and days before it happened.  Sam learns Dean carried him out the front door the night of the fire.   Feels like something is starting.  Ends up picking up more vibes than Missouri.  (Has borrowed her power? GO Theory will point to other spots as we go along.)  Sees Mary when she manifests for them in the house.  Sam asks Missouri "what's happening to me?" but she has no answers for him.  He knows he is changing.  Totally tickled by Missouri's description of Dean as a kid and her picking on him.  Missouri with regards to Sam - "That boy, he has such powerful abilities (PLURAL!!!!).  Why he didn't sense you (John) I have no idea."

1.10 Asylum - Questions the fact their father has sent them a mission with a text message.  Tells Dean he was Method Acting - Dean has no idea what that means.  (Sounds like an in-joke here somehow.)  States he does not have ESP, that he only gets strange vibes and has weird dreams.  Feels they deserve answers from their father and not being kept in the dark.  Also balks at having to do everything he says without question.  Doesn't like it when the normals won't leave when they are just trying to keep them safe.  Deep down resents being bossed around - I have a mind of my own!  Thinks Dean's unquestioning of orders is pathetic.

1.11 Scarecrow - Sam gets to talk to JW.  Gets pissed when JW orders him not to follow him and to go do the job he's giving them.  Let's Dean do the research on the info JW gives them.  Drives the car instead.  (Silent protest, as Sam is normally the one looking stuff up.)  Balks at doing this job.  Has figured out from the number of the incoming call that JW is in California.  He wants to help.  Doesn't care their Dad doesn't want them in on it or that he gave an order.  "We don't always have to do what he says!"  He wants answers, better yet, revenge.  They have a big fight and Sam takes off on his own.  Thinks of calling Dean later but never actually dials.  Later both are talking, but not identified as to who actually made the call.  (I am betting it was Dean.)  Called "trusty sidekick geek boy to do research" by Dean.  Can decipher Dean's attempts at an apology and beats him to it - "I'm sorry too."  He's also surprised/shocked as he realizes Dean is saying good-bye.  Later tries to call Dean back for 3 hours and gets no response - knows something is not right.  Decides to go back - he's my family.  Stole a car to get back to Dean.  Jess and Mom are gone, Dad is who knows where - you and me are all that's left - Sam decides he will stick with Dean despite the fact he's a pain the in ass. :P  To see it through we have to stay together.

1.12 Faith - Sam takes charge of the kids they are rescuing while Dean plays delay.  He's not willing to just let Dean die.  Didn't sleep for three days trying to find answers.  Doesn't tell Dean what possible cure he's found as he knows Dean would never go for a faith healer.  Tells Dean that "maybe it's time to have a little faith".  Once they find out what is happening (after Dean has been healed) he's very sorry.  He's realized Dean was right, these are not true faith healings.  He looks totally miserable and can't look Dean in the face at first.  Insists they can't kill a human being!  Otherwise they would become as evil as the killer they are trying to catch.  Lock picks a door.  Sam calls Layla to have her come over so Dean get a chance to say good bye.

1.13 Route 666 - He's amazed Dean actually dated someone for more than 1 night.  Shocked, then mad that Dean revealed the family secret to Cassie.  He'd kept his mouth shut with Jessica for over a year and a half!  Big Family Rule #1 - we do what we do but we shut up about it.  Sam is utterly tickled to see a quiet/shy Dean.  Bets that Cassie kicked Dean's ass a couple of times.  Thinks the two of them together are so cute.  Points out that Dean and Cassie have serious unfinished business.  Realized Dean really loved her.  Is even more shocked when he figures out she dumped him and not the other way around.  More tickled when Dean doesn't come back to the hotel one night, as he spent it with Cassie.  (He'll get payback in Provenance 1,19 heh heh)  Sam did a paper in college on Polycentric Cultural Norms. Likes having conversations that didn't start with "This Killer Truck".  Totally tickled Dean is still in love with Cassie.  Sam likes Cassie.

1.14 Nightmare - He's very upset when this dream does not come in time for him to stop the death - "What is the point of having premonitions if you don't get a chance to stop them?"  Believes that pretending to be Catholic priests is a whole new low for them.  Sam has his first waking vision, which prove intensely painful.  Thinks their family is cursed.  Feels a kinship with Max when he finds out they both have powers and their mother's died in the same way.  They were Chosen.  When he sees a vision of Dean being killed, he is able to call on Max's power to move the cabinet holding the closet closed.  (Second time Sam has shown powers used by someone else near him.  See 1.9 Home)  Horrified when Max kills himself.  Feels responsible, that he should have been able to do more.  For the first time feels lucky their father is who he is, now that he has seen how things could have turned out if he'd been someone else.  (Max's father turned hateful and abusive to his son.)  "All things considered, we turned out okay, thanks to him."  A little concerned he could turn out like Max, but Dean tells him Max didn't have him to keep him straight.  Confesses to Dean how he was able to move the cabinet.

1.15 The Benders - We find out Sam's name is actually Samuel.  Tells the other hostage not to call him Sammy.  Sam kicks hillbilly butt.  He can tell Kathleen probably should not be trusted with guarding the old man, but leaves them together anyway so he can go look for Dean.  She kills him but Sam says nothing.  Tickled that Dean was worried about him.  The first time Sam's been kidnapped.  "Sidelined by a 13 year old girl, huh?"

1.16 Shadow - Sam was in a High School production of "Our Town".  Wants Dean to do his thinking with the upstairs brain.  Doesn't know who Michael Murray is.  (Neither do I! But I am clueless.)  Believes Dean means well, but doesn't make him like his methods any better.  Meeting Meg again seems too coincidental and gives Sam bad vibes.  Teased by Dean about stalking her outside her apartment.  Shocked when he's called a pervert by a passerby.  When asked what he'd do if they got rid of YED (Yellow Eyed Demon), Sam states he would sleep for a month then go back to school - become a person again.  He becomes concerned when he asks Dean what he would do and doesn't get much of an answer.  There's got to be something you want for yourself!  He tells Dean they are family, but things will never be where they were before.  He didn't want them to be.  "I'm not going to live this life forever.  When this is over, you're going to have to let me go my own way."  Mad at Meg for killing people just to lure them there.  Goads Meg so Dean can work at escape.  Holds a policy of better safe than sorry.  When his father appears, Sam holds back.  He admits it has been too long and the two finally hug.  Sam thinks the three of them should stick together.  He's desperate with his need to be part of the fight to take YED down.  He still lets his father go when pressed to it, however.  He can barely look at Dean, knowing that for Dean to let their father go is harder on his brother than on him.

1.17 Hellhouse -  Sam is not happy when Dean starts the practical jokes.  Seems they would go on binges of this as kids and would always escalate.  He says he hates it, but that does not stop him doing it.  Back then, Dean put Nair in Sam's shampoo.  (Poor Sam!)  Sam is still unhappy that they let Dad go off alone in 1.16, thinks it was a mistake.  He is amused by amateurs at the paranormal.  Sam actually giggles when he gets one on Dean.  He won't do dares, not even double dares.  Plays good cop, bad cop.  Absolutely hated the itching powder in his pants.  Sets up the Impala's radio to where when Dean gets in and starts the car, the music is screaming. Also set up the windshield wipers to kick on anything else in the car activated once the engine engages.  Scared Dean crapless.  Heh heh.  Puts superglue on a beer bottle.  Always puts himself in the path of danger for non-coms.  Best joke - he calls the wanna ghostbusters and tells them he has a movie deal for them - this gets the website shut down.  Calls for a truce on the joke binge.

John Winchester

1.1 Pilot - Saw his wife pinned to the ceiling and catch on fire.  Raised his children to be warriors.  Has a crusade to kill evil things while trying to track down what killed his wife.  Ex-military - army.  Has drinking binges and disappears on occasion.

1.4  Phantom Traveler - talked about Sam all the time to clients.  Seemed very proud of him.

1.8 Bugs - Not disappointed in Sam, only didn't want him to go to college because he was afraid of what might happen to him out there alone.  But even during the years they weren't talking, would take every opportunity to go by Stanford and check up on him (without letting Sam know he'd ever been there) and make sure he was safe.

1.9  Home - Part owner of a garage now going by the name of Guenther's Auto Repair.  He disappeared with the boys without a word.  Sold his part in the garage.  Considered very stubborn and hated to lose.  Known to love Mary and doted on the kids.  Friend begged him to get help after Mary's death, but instead he went to consult a palm reader (Missouri) and reading weird books.  The friend called social services on him when John sold his piece of the garage and used the money to buy weapons.  Learned about the supernatural from Missouri Mosley.  He went to her for a reading a few days after the fire.  Kept all theories on Mary's killer to himself.  He either saw signs or got Dean's message and comes to Lawrence but does let himself be seen by the boys.  From Missouri - "Why not talk to your children?" John - "You don't know how much I want to see them.  But I can't.  Not yet.  Not until I know the truth."

1.10 Asylum - Per Sam, John can barely work a toaster let alone text messaging on a cell phone.  Guess this makes him mechanically inclined but not electronically?  Sent a text message at 9:52 PM Msg 42, -89. Calls the boys at the end of the episode.

1.11 Scarecrow - States that he's okay, can't say where he is.  "You're going to have to trust me."  Knows for sure what killed Mary, that it was a demon.  Says he also knows about what happened to Jessica.  Would have done anything to protect him from that.  He's closing in on the demon.  Tells Sam he can't be any part of it.  (I believe that definitely at this point, JW knows the truth about Sam as revealed in later eps.)  They need to stop looking for him.  The demons are everywhere.  This is bigger than Sam thinks.  Talking is not safe.  Forces the issue as an order, which pisses Sam off.  "Stop following me, do as you're told and do the job."  Dean takes the phone and it's all "yes, sir."  JW is a master at putting clues together to find patterns.

1.12 Faith - Though he gets a desperate call from Sam telling him Dean is dying, he never returns the call or shows up.

1.16 Shadow - Large black truck, license CSG B83.  Happy to see his sons face to face.  Hugs Dean without reservation, but holds back from going to Sam.  They both test the waters before going ahead and hugging.  John knows YED is close.  He's not planning on exorcising him, but on killing him.  He won't tell them how he plans to do this though.  He won't let them come help him either.  He says YED is a scary son of a b*tch. "Don't want you caught in the crossfire, to get hurt." He is only looking at Sam when he says this.  He already knows the secret he imparts to Dean in season 2.  Of course he worries - he's their father.  He also calls Sam, Sammy, just like Dean.  You've got to trust me.  The fight has just started and we'll all have a part to play.  You have to let me go.

Mary Winchester

1.1 Pilot - Died 11/2/83.  Dean was 4 years old, Sam 6 months.

1.9 Home - has remained in the house all this time.  Shows up to save Sam when he is attacked by the main bad spirit in the house.  Both boys see her.  She smiles at Dean and says his name and Sam's.  Then looks at Sam and says "I'm sorry."  She does not say for what, only looks sad.  According to Missouri she destroyed herself canceling the other spirit while protecting the boys.

Jessica Lee Moore

1.1 Pilot - Shows on 10/31/05, dies on 11/2/05 same day as Mary Winchester.  Also killed on the second floor, right hand side corner bedroom, just like Mary Winchester.  Normally slept in shorts and a cut Smurfs t-shirt, but died with a short negligee (with the fresh cookies and note, one can assume she was preparing a warm welcome for Sam.)  5' 11. Blue-green colored eyes.

1.2 Wendigo - Born 1/24/84 as Jessica Lee Moore.  Thought roses were lame.

1.13 Route 666 - She and Sam dated for a year and a half.  She was never told the family secret.

Bobby Singer

Appears to be an in-joke on Director Robert Singer.

Meg

1.11 Scarecrow - Hitchhiker Sam meets on the road.  They meet again at a bus station.  Meg has seemingly left home to strike out on her own, not willing to follow the plans set down for her by her family.  Appears to be having similar problems/issues as Sam.  Tries to dissuade Sam from going back to Dean.  At the end, picks up a ride and kills the driver, using an ornate cup to catch the driver's blood (after slashing his neck open) and contacts someone through arcane means.

1.16 Shadows - Meg shows up at the bar of the second victim.  She recognizes Sam immediately and remarks on the coincidence.  Attacks Dean verbally from info she got from Sam, making things awkward between the Winchesters.  Full name Meg Masters.  312-555-0143 Comes from 13 Oakwood Dr.  Handover, MA.  Has set up the boys as she believes they are John Winchester's one weakness.  His emotions will cloud his judgment.  Says she does this out of loyalty and love.  Controlling the Devas.  Drops from a seven story window when her control of the Devas is interrupted.  At first she seems to die, but later is back on her feet.  First hint that Meg is more than she seems.

Impala (Baby?)

1.1 Pilot - 1967 Chevrolet Impala, black.  4 door.  License KAZ 2Y5 Lawrence, KS.  Leather seats.  Large trunk with bottom compartment.  When opened, usually propped with a sawed-off shotgun.  Dreamcatcher dangles from the hinge.  Silver bullets.  Assorted knives, guns, etc.

1.13 Route 666 - mileage is 70100.9.  I would think it has been flipped at least once.

Episodes

1.1 Pilot - (Palo Alto, Ca)  First instance of the "Jerk - B*tch" brother exchange.  Sam smacks Dean in the back of the head for being disrespectful to the law.  (This seems to become standard - Sam whacking Dean for unhappiness.)  Looks (from deleted scenes in DVD pack) that after Dean dropped off Sam at home, he looked at his watch and saw the date.  It was the anniversary of their mother's death.  He appears to have turned back, probably because neither had realized the date and Dean wanted to bring it up and perhaps spend a moment remembering her.)  Intro show letters are in a soft blue - this will change to fire covered letters with a pentagram for season 2.  Woman in White is the creature - ghost seen in the street - victim of suicide usually after a bout of insanity and finds they've killed loved ones so then end their own lives.  Dean almost hits Sam for what he perceives as disrespect - this will be turned around and Dean use the conversation against Sam toward the end of season 1.

1.2 Wendigo - (Palo Alto, Ca - Blackwater Ridge, Lost Creek, Co.)  First instance of Sam rolling his eyes at Dean.    Sam communicates with looks to Dean.  See the normal pattern of Sam protecting their charges while Dean will put himself in the fire zone to distract the monster.  Anasazi Indian symbols used for protection against the Wendigo.  Not hurt by normal weapons.  Impala's plates KAZ 2Y5 Lawrence, KS.  Dean smacks Sam for emphasis.  (This seems to be the standard as he does it at other times for the same purpose.)  Dean got the female gratitude this round.  Victims Brad and Gary.  Haley and younger brother Collin looking for missing older brother Tommy.  Monster has attacked hikers/hunters every 23 years.  Wendigo are people who have resorted to canibalism and over time have changed into something not human. Masqueraded as environmental study majors and rangers with the park service.  Ranger ID was Samuel Cole.

1.3 Dead in the Water - (Lake Manitok, WI) -  Main charas are Andrea Barr and Lucas Barr.  Lucas suffers from Post Traumatic Stress - cases known of such stress giving powers/sensitivity.  Dean gets the female gratitude again, though Sam was the one who pulled her from the death tub. :P  Monster is the restless spirit of a boy who is using the lake.  Masqueraded as US Wildlife Service - Agents Ford and Hamill.

1.4 Phantom Traveler - (Nazareth, Kittaning, PA, Indianapolis, IN)  A demon is using passengers with high stress/fear to cause crashes 40 minutes after takeoff.  Masqueraded as Homeland Security, also Dean as Dr. James Hetfield from St. Francis Memorial Hospital.  Hetfield Metallica's lead singer.  Ritual Romanum and its two parts are sited as the items used by the Winchesters for expunging demons from the possessed.  Dean slept on the left bed, Sam on right.  They switch arbitrarily as seen in other eps.

1.5 Bloody Mary - (Toledo, OH, Fort Wayne, IN)  Murdered woman haunts mirrors and takes revenge on liars.  Mirrors can show the reflections of the soul.  Mirrors can suck in spirits, which is why they were normally covered at times of death in a family.  Night vision cameras can show signs of supernatural activity.

1.6 Skin - (St. Louis, MO)  Sam's friends are named Zach and Rebecca (Becky).  Silver bullets are the main weapon again shape shifters.  Photographs and video catch glimpses of the soul, shown for these shape shifters as silver eyes.  Shifter could only hold the shape for a few hours before he was forced to change, but could use a previous shape.  Sam introduces Dean as a policeman from Bisbee, AZ.  Weird continuity glitches with Becky in this one.  Shape shifter gets killed while in Dean's form.  Dean Winchester marked as deceased in law databases.

1.7 Hookman - (Eastern Iowa University, IA - Theta Sorority) Ghost tied to world by a previous possession.  Sam gets the girl.  Introduction of rock salt and shotguns.  Dean and John's invention.   Salt is a spirit deterrent.  Spirits can leave an ozone smell.   Spirits can feed off repressed emotions.  Salt and holy water and fire on a spirits earthly remains will purify/destroy them.

1.8 Bugs - (Oasis Plains, OK)  Charas, Joanna, Linda (Mom), Matt (boy), Larry (Father).  First instance of people assuming the brothers are a gay couple.  A housing development is being plagued by deaths tied to insects.  Turns out the project is on land which at one time belonged to an Indian tribe which was decimated by soldiers over a period of time because they would not allow themselves to be relocated.  The chief laid a curse that no white man would be suffered to live there.  The curse was not removed, only survived through.

1.9 Home - (Lawrence, KS)  Flickering lights and scratching sounds are signs of a malevolent spirit.  Introduction of Missouri Mosley - palm reader - person who opened John Winchester's eyes to the supernatural.  Missouri can read thoughts and sense images.  22 years before, she went to their home after John came to her for a reading.  She felt that whatever had been there was evil.  Has kept and eye on the place ever since.  The wounds from the original deed have attracted other malevolent spirits.  (Evil leaves wounds and they get infected - magnet for paranormal energy.  No activity before this point, can't figure out why now.  (Possibly a side effect of a similar death occurring to Jessica?  Or just because YED has started rolling things along?)  The same room that was once Sam's Nursery is the center of the disturbances.  Items used Angelica Root, cross road dirt, Van van (?).  Stated by Missouri that Sam is very powerful.

1.10 Asylum - (Roosevelt Asylum Rockford, IL  The Old Terminal Pub)  Legend is that the asylum us haunted by the ghosts of patients and if you spend the night, they might drive you insane.  Haunted Asylum, disturbances in the South Wing - in basement, past the Boiler Room, through a Bio Hazzard door.  Also Room 137.  Roosevelt Riot 1964 - Sanford Ellicott, MD was Chief of Staff.  Mention of known associates of John Winchester - Caleb, Jefferson, Pastor Jim.  Ghost is able to call Sam's cell and mimic Dean's voice.  Sam passes himself off as a psychiatric patient.  Video camera can pick up the presence of ghosts as blobs.  Dean passes himself off as a reports named Nigel Todwell with the Chicago Tribune (part of a good person, bad person play with Sam).  Kids in the asylum are Gavin and Kat (Katherine).  Sam is on the left bed, Dean on the right (no shirt).  End with a call from JW, which is answered by Sam.

1.11 Scarecrow - (Burkilville, IN  Scotty's Cafe, Jorgeson General Store, Orchard outside of town) Once a year, a couple has been disappearing when traveling through Indiana.  Emily, town girl, lost parents at 13 and came to live with her aunt and uncle.  The character of Meg is introduced in this episode.  Dean introduces himself to Scotty as "John Bonham" which Scotty recognizes as the name of the lead drummer for Led Zeppelin.  Dean orders coffee and pie and gets neither.  (This will occur again in AHBL pt 1 Season 2 - guess he is not destined to have pie.) :P  Deaths are actually sacrifices to a Vanir, an old world Scandinavian god.  It basically kept the harvest good and the town thriving.  The weighs of the many supposedly outweighing the needs of the few or the one.  (As long as it not them of course!) :P  Sam practices Car Theft.  Meg is revealed for what she actually is and makes her first blood call.  "I could have stopped Sam, taken them both.  Why let them go?"  "Yes, Father."  Could be that some of her own coinciding issues that she brought up to Sam were more than her picking up thoughts from him, but that she really does have her own issues with her father always telling her what to do!

1.12  Faith - (Undisclosed abandoned house, Church of Roy Le Grange - True Believer Revival, Nebraska) Dean gets accidentally doused with a 100,000 volt stun gun and gets electrocuted which in turn triggers a heart attack and causes major heart damage - he is given 2 weeks to a month to live.  First place where either of them is shown to have any type of religious bent.  Roy Le Grange (woke up stone blind one day - was dying of cancer - went into a coma - woke up and the cancer was gone.  Then he found out he could heal people), Sue Ann (Roy's wife - also controller of the Reaper - she dies from a Reaper induced stroke), Layla Roark (Brain tumor - inoperable - has 6 months tops), Marshall Hall (Heartattack while running 4:17 pm clock froze on time of death - his life is the one exchanged for Dean's.)  The faith healer chooses from the flock who will be healed.  Unfortunately, every time someone is healed, someone else out there dies.  6 times in the last year.  The cause is a Reaper - the only thing that can give or take life like that.  Reapers stop time - you only see them when they are coming for you.  This reaper is bound by dark magic - book created by a priest who went dark side.  Altar and an amulet for control - altar has bones, blood, a cross with a circle.  Dean is 27 in this episode.

1.13  Route 666 - (Cape Girardeau, Mo, US 6)  Between 9:28 and 9:29 a Big Black Monster Truck appears and runs a driver off the road.  2 people dead in 3 weeks.  Connected to a string of deaths back in the 60's. 1st victim was Clayton Summers, then Martin Robinson, then Jimmy, then Mayor Harold Todd.  Cyrus Dorian disappeared in April of 1963.  The killings began again the day after the Dorian Mansion was wrecked.  Boys pass themselves off as Insurance Agents for All National Mutual.  Torching the remains does not get rid of Cyrus as he seems to have been tied more to the truck and family property.  Destroyed when the monster truck drives over hallowed ground.  (Which in this case was a nice dose of irony since it was the grounds of the church he had destroyed back in the 60's.)

1.14 Nightmare - (Saginaw, Michigan, Great Lakes)  Sleeping arrangements - Dean left bed, Sam right bed.  License plate joke: MF 6037 - the guy who owns it is a definite MF - Jim Miller - trapped in his car in the garage and asphyxiates from car fumes.  Sam calls in as a Detective MCCrude Badge 158.  Both boys pretend to be Catholic priests Simons (Dean), and Freeley (Sam) from St.Augustine's.  Roger Miller is victim #2 - 450 West Grove Apt . 1120 Saginaw Manor - death by slamming window/decapitation.  1st occasion where Sam has prophetic visions and Dean becomes aware of them.  Also Sam's first waking vision.  (When asleep, the vision come as nightmares with no pain.  When awake, there is intense pain, increasing the closer he comes to the target.)  (I have a major theory about these visions and YED but won't discuss here.)  Dean grazing #2.  Use of the homemade EMF and a new machine with green light beams and a screen. Boys stay at the Escalada lodge.  It is revealed that Max (killer - though Telekinetic powers) is like Sam, in that not only does he have powers, but his mother was killed in a fire when he was 6 months old.  Jim Miller turned abusive, he and his brother beat up and tortured Max all his life.  Once his powers appeared after his 22nd birthday, Max decided to take care of his tormentors.  Definite link between special children and the demon who killed Mary.

1.15 The Benders - (Hibbins, MN) People have been disappearing off the street.  Kugel's Keg.  Possible Hunting grounds of the Phantom Attacker.  The town has more missing persons per capita than the state.  Deputy Kathleen - her brother Riley disappeared 3 years ago.  Bad guys - Missy, Terrell, Pa.  Dean and Sam first show up as State Police.  First time Sam's been kidnapped.  Dean tries to pass himself off as Officer Greg Washington.  Case of cannibalism and hunting humans for sport.

1.16 Shadow (Chicago, IL) Stealth Killer murdering people in their homes with doors and windows still locked.  Boys pretend to work for the Illinois State Chronicle, and PF Security Services, an alarm company, as techs.  Victim was Meredith, a waitress born in Lawrence, KS.  Heart was missing.  Second murder in two months.  High EMF emissions in the apartment.  Culprit is a Deva - a demon of darkness.  Zoroastrian Demon, who must be summoned or conjured.  Meg is back.  Full name Meg Masters, has a tattoo on her left shoulder.  312-555-0143 Comes from 13 Oakwood Dr.  Handover, MA.  Meg has killed people from Lawrence, KS to draw the boys there to use as bait to catch their father.  Shadow demons hit Sam, but go tear up Dean and John, almost as if no real harm is to come to him.  The Devas are repelled by light.  Disrupt Meg's control of the demons by disturbing the altar.  First hint that Meg is more than she seems.

1.17 Hellhouse - Richardson, TX (This is actually Jensen Ackles home town, but don't be fooled by what you see, Texas is nothing like this! lol!  Had me a lot of giggles due to that in this episode, especially I-35 represented as a two lane black top!  Lol!  I am sure Jensen was having giggles too.) :P  Locations - Rodeo Drive Inn, Big Texas Towing and Salvage, Wyrth's Western Inn, Heritage Hall - Collin County Public Library, Texas Rose General Store.  Boys represented themselves as reporters for the Dallas Morning News.  Mordecai Murdoch is purported to have killed his daughters and then himself in the root cellar of an old house.  Craig Thurston actually set up the story as a hoax to scare some friends, but now murders are really happening from what seems to be Mordecai's ghost.  This is the brothers play jokes on each other episode!  Culprit is a Tulpa -  A sigil was used in the house that is used by Tibetans to bring a being to life through willpower.  A website on the supernatural by Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spengler  (Ghostbusters injoke) on Mordecai has unknowingly focused the will of over 10,000 - www.hellhoundslair.com.  Ed and Harry are super geeks - greatest like "WWBD - What would Buffy do?"  Electric poles interfere with EMF readings.  (Sam in a towel scene - major pectoral action on this boy!)
