Virtual Tourist – My Time at Portia 4/22/18

My goodness! 2018 is turning out to be even more turbulent than 2016 and 2017. Oi!

Typically once I am out of the YE and audit circus, things settle down a bit. But not this year! First Quarter End was brutal. I worked three weeks worth of time in two weeks. Ugh. I’ve been a mental vegetable.

Mini Movie Reviews

Rampage

Rampage – The film is another piece of fun nostalgia. It’s loosely based on the console game Rampage. It was a fun ride all the way around. George, the albino gorilla, is a hoot! 3.75 out of 5. (Hubby’s Rating: Worth full price to see again!)

Isle Of Dogs

Isle of Dogs – this was a fun and super quirky film. They use both stop animation and film animation. They make subtle fun of all sorts of things. The dogs are awesome. Not everyone will like it, but we thought it was great! 3.75 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth full price of admission.)

My Time at Portia

I got a new game to detox with – My Time at Portia. It is very similar, yet also different from Stardew Valley (Another fun game). The central premise of both games is to help the community, grow in skills, mine, fish, farm, scavenge, fight, and more.  Aside from different mechanics and emphasis, My Time at Portia has an entirely different visual feel from Stardew Valley.

My Time at Portia - Central Square

This is the central square in town. A&G Construction, Commerce Center, and the Mayor’s office are here.

My Time at Portia - Sonya

Since it is a community type game, you get experience for meeting people. This is my first meeting with Sonia. One thing this game adds to the townsfolk is the ability to spar with them, plays stone-paper-scissors, or even Go. If you win, you get additional relationship points and a bit of coin (or lose coin, too!)

My Time at Portia - Mayor's Office

This is the Mayor’s office. On the right is a list of active quests. The indicator over his head shows I need to go to him for an action. (And yes, that’s me!) 🙂

My Time at Portia - Knight game room

Game room at Django’s restaurant. There are lots of things reminiscent of Stardew Valley.

The Civil Corps building – they help fight monsters and keep the town safe. Had to take a pic of their mascot/statue as it is a pig flying. lol.

My Time at Portia - ruins can be seen in the distance

This is a post-apocalyptic world that is once more prospering. There are ruins that can be mined for old technologies. There are factions/guilds that are pro and anti old technology.

My Time at Portia - Ruins

View back towards town from the tree farm area. You can see the Church of Light on the right. They are anti old tech.

My Time at Portia - Inside the Church of Light

Inside the Church of Light. Quite impressive!

My Time at Portia - murals at the Church of Light

The murals depict some of the events before civilization collapsed.

My Time at Portia - Left side murals at the Church f Light

Here humanity is rising out of the dark ages.

More weird stuff was going on in life this past week. Hopefully, things will find a neutral ground, and I can get back to a regular schedule again. *fingercrossed*

Virtual Tourist – Secret World Legends 4/1/18

Morning, all!

I dropped off the face of the planet again. Between conventions, year-end audit at work and projects, and getting sick, it’s been hard keeping up. First three months of every new year just seem brutal. Wheee!

Mini Movie Reviews ~!

Ready Player One

Ready Player One – I’d had some reservations about this one, but there was nothing to be worried about! The film was awesome! Lots of actions, red herrings, deeper plots, tons of fan service, and more. A lot to think about too. 4.5 out of 5! (Yes, I was that impressed!) (Hubby’s Rating: Pay Full Price to See Again!)

Pacific Rim UprisingPacific Rim: Uprising – This time it was hubby who was reticent and was pleasantly surprised. I was very much looking forward to it. (Giant robots and monsters – what’s not to like?) A more serious version than the original and had a lot of character stuff going on to give the story depth and not just combat. Good job, guys! (And they don’t fall into the bad habit of late of not giving the audience a quick ‘what’s gone on before’ peek. 🙂 4 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth Full Price of Admission)

Secret World Legends

Secret World Legends - psychicThe fortune teller on Solomon Island. She used to be a fake until things started to go bad. Now she is the real deal.

Secret World Legends - ParkWe had to do a ceremony centered on this park and fountain. Love the funky lighting.

Secret World Legends - sewersOne of the super ugly beasts trying to take over town. Ugh!

Secret World Legends - mutated sailor This poor guy is one of the people from the fishing boat we’d heard came in with the fog when the chaos started. He’s still himself, but he’s losing ground. eek!

Secret World Legends - Bad GuysThe dude is the reason all this is happening in town. Power hungry lunatic. The girl behind him? She’s more than she lets on. Has her own agenda, too!

Secret World Legends - Overlook MotelThe Overlook Motel – it’s in a new section of the map. A lot of bad things have happened here and still happening.

Secret World Legends - Summoning One of the rooms of the Overlook Motel. This gentleman has been lost, but his spirit is giving us clues on how to find him and hopefully put a stop to the corruption here.

Secret World Legends - Happiness DestroyedWhat was once a happy place, has been smeared with darkness.

Secret World Legends - LibraryNice library!

Secret World Legends - Library Door PuzzleDoor puzzle to enter the lower levels of the library. Where the dangerous knowledge is kept.

Hope you and yours have a fabulous Easter!

Virtual Tourist – Wolfenstein The New Order 2/25/18

Morning!

We have had tons of rain here. Working on staying dry and not getting another cold! Ugh!

Mini Movie Reviews!

Black Panther

Black Panther – 3.75 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth Full Price to See Again!) – The film had loads of action, super cool tech, bits of comedy, twisted plot, and neat costumes. The lady warriors were super awesome! 🙂 Two extra scenes during the credit so stay all the way to the end!

Early Man

Early Man – 3.5 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth Full Price of Admission) – Like all the works by the peeps from Wallace and Gromit, there’s a lot of fun to be found in the film. Surprisingly, the main plot ends up centering around football! (Aka Soccer) Ended up feeling very reminiscent of Terry Pratchett’s book Unseen Academicals! The film was a nice bit of fun!

Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein The New Order - Rebel HQ

Living quarters area of the hidden Rebel HQ in Berlin.

Wolfenstein The New Order - Inside the Dream - Original Wolfenstein!

When I went to sleep at HQ – my dreams took me here. To the original Wolfenstein game! Lol.

Wolfenstein The New Order - Original Wolfenstein level

This was so nostalgic! And the art is 2D, while your avatar stays the same. Very trippy! 🙂

Wolfenstein the New Order - Rebel leader

This is the leader of our little band.

Wolfenstein The New Order - a little Star Wars thrown in?

Heading to our next target. The text throws in a little bit of Star Wars. Perfect! 😛

Wolfenstein The New Order - the city is on high alter

The sky seems almost on fire. Armed dirigibles and mechanized armaments are everywhere.

Wolfenstein The New Order - Mechanized death!

Another friend has sacrificed his life to blow up the fortified entrance to the space museum. Not all obstacles got destroyed, however. Eek!

Wolfenstein The New Order - Moon Exploration Museum

Inside the museum proper. Truly a cool place. The deeper you go, the more amazing it gets!

Wolfenstein The New Order - a site you never imagined

Not a sight I ever imagined. 😛 Love that they have the statues saluting. Lol. Leaves no doubt whatsoever on who it is. 😛

Wolfenstein The New Order - The Germans have a moon base!

The German’s have a moon base! (And yes, we will be going there!) 😛

Stay healthy! Stay dry!

Virtual Tourist – Deus Ex Mankind Divided 2/4/18

Greetings!

I kind of fell off the face of the Earth for a while. Year End Close at work was rather brutal, and in the middle of it, hubby and I caught the Flu. My daughter and son-in-law didn’t catch it, but they got sinus infections instead. Now Jan close is here and the auditors for YE will show any day now. Wheeeeee!

Maze Runner Death Cure

Mini Movie Review – Maze Runner: Death Cure – It was loads better than the second film. A quick recap would have done a lot for it. The continual assumption by Hollywood that people will have gone back and rewatched the previous movies before seeing the new one will keep audiences from enjoying them as much. Lots of action and craziness. Do not look at stuff closely or it falls apart. Things set up in film 2 are not followed up on, things that should have been obvious from stuff that happened in film 2 also were ignored. lol.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Jensen goes into an antiques store and someone had a lot of fun with it. Found a copy of “Hitman” in a corner.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Then I found a copy of Deus Ex in a box! lol.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

A part of the map finally opened up in Prague. This is the red light district. Love the girl silhouette projected on the building.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Such a funky setup.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

An unexpected surprise! The original version of the AI program still exists! But this side story you have to stumble across. Hubby never knew of it. I only found it because I noticed one of the street electrical posters was malfunctioning and went to check it out. So glad she escaped!

The main street of the red light district. A lot of inventiveness went into this area. As you can see here and in the following pics. (Those leg lamps are too fab! lol)

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Looking for someone to get intel from here. It’s funny how upstairs it says “live show” yet they use mannequins. (And yes, to the right, that is what it looks like – a tentacle!)

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Inside The Irish Stool – has a nice feel to it. 🙂

The “Temptacle” Club – the reason for the tentacles on buildings. lol.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

This is the Church of the Machine God. The followers believe God is in the technology. They have a plan to elevate themselves to the next form of existence. Eek!

Stay warm and healthy out there!

Virtual Tourist – Wolfenstein The New Order 1/14/18

Morning!

No Mini Movie Review this week. Work’s been killing me for Year End Close, so I was a total vegetable yesterday. Did 16 hours just on Friday. Ugh! The first couple of months of the new year are heinous work wise. 😛 (My messed up brain kept singing “It’s the most wonderful time, of the year!” all week!) 😛

Wolfenstein The New Order

Wolfenstein The New Order

We’re taking the train to Berlin. Those two at the table will become central figures in BJ’s future.

Wolfenstein The New Order

Close up of one of the top of the line cyborg sentries.

I love all the lovely details!

Wolfenstein The New Order

Our first look at Berlin.

Wolfenstein The New Order

More of the Berlin skyline. The Nazi Secret Police Headquarters

Wolfenstein The New Order

The Nazi’s have made it to the moon! This is also, believe it or not, a piece of foreshadowing. Later on, we’ll be going there too! Bwahahahahaha!

Wolfenstein The New Order - building

This is a rather impressive building, no?

Wolfenstein The New Order

After much work and heartache, I’ve finally found what remains of the US resistance fighters in a super fortified prison. I’m about to cut those chains!

Wolfenstein The New Order - statues

You have to give it to the Nazi’s – they know how to go big! (This is also an overhead view which will lead us down to where the resistance has their main HQ. Right in the middle of the enemy!

Wolfenstein The New Order - Resistance HQ

Resistance Headquarters. What little there is of it. But tapped in good.

Hope you have a great week!

Mini Movie Review

Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour – 4 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth Full Price to See Again) – great performances, cool cinematography. See the England side of what was going on while soldiers were getting stranded at Dunkirk and the horrid pressure on Churchill. A fascinating slice of history.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Deus Ex Mankind Divided Beautiful view from the window!

Deus Ex Mankind Divided Someone has been keeping tabs on us!

Deus Ex Mankind Divided Hidden clues to a murder?

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

This machine will send me into a virtual world. Trying to figure out if my boss is part of the conspiracy.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

The virtual room where we’ve glimpsed clandestine meetings by those trying to undermine society.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided Virtual data vault!

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

This is the actual data in a virtual form.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided Another data node. This place is so cool looking! A pain in the keister to get at some of these data nodes though!

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

I am spying on my bosses a virtual meeting. Hee hee!

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Red light district in Prague. Clues from the virtual data vault and eavesdropping have led me here.

Wish me luck! Currently going through Year End at work. So far it’s proving rather ugly. Don’t like it! Waaahhh!

Have a great week!

Virtual Tourist – Wolfenstein The New Order 12/31/17

With all the holidays the last two weeks and trying not to catch a cold, my sense of what day it is is a little on the fritz! Lol. Almost forgot today is Sunday and Virtual Tourist Day! DOH!

Mini Movie Reviews

Star Wars The Last Jedi

Star Wars The Last Jedi – 3 out of 5 – mostly a smash of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with unimaginative changes. For such a huge franchise, you’d think they’d try to do good scripts. Still better than Episode III (Movie 6) 😛

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

JUMANJI: Welcome to the Jungle – 4 out of 5 – I REALLY enjoyed this one! It had a lot more depth than you’d expect, lots of surprises, and the acting was fab! Jack Black outdid himself on this one. They all did. (We went home and immediately watched the original again. Found several nice tie backs!)

DownsizingDownsizing – 3.25 out of 5 – Hubby was wanting to see this one badly, and ended up very disappointed. The first half or so was fascinating! Then the pace came to grinding halt and took a left turn. I think they tried to do too much with the film and inadvertently lost their way. A pity.

Wolfenstein The New Order

After escaping the mental hospital, we hide at my girl’s grandparents. I brought along a souvenir. Time to get answers.

The little touches are always the best. Here is a poster that needs no translation. 🙂

A giant facility and checkpoint. We need to get through this to go to Berlin.

Should have lightened this one. Dang. Anyway, you can see my girl’s grandma and grandpa. Old but mean business. They are helping to sneak the two of us to Berlin.

 Within the facility/checkpoint structure.

Another one I should have lightened. Boo! I’m sneaking my way further into the facility.

Some cool truck plans in the garage area. Some very subtle foreshadowing as you will soon see. 😛

View of a smaller secondary gate. We’re almost through.

Surprise! This is what the weird truck specs were for. Transporting mechanized warrior units. Eek!

A full view of the beastie. Nasty sucker. They pop two of those for you to get rid off. Ugh!

Hope you and yours have a great New Years Eve!

Virtual Tourist – Deus Ex: Mankind Divided 12/17/17

Morning!

Chaos continues! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Mini-Movie Review – The Shape of Water

The Shape Of Water

The opening scene is super awesome. This is a cute fairy tale, but IT IS NOT FOR KIDS! I can’t emphasize this enough. This movie is for adults. There are lots of great performances. It’s a sleepy little tale, but very poignant.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

One of the problems with what was supposed to be an aug paradise.

Heading to some of the restricted levels as I search for the man who created this place.

Sneaking around looking for ways up.

The man being blamed for a lot of the terrorist action in the world. He is an avid aug supporter. He doesn’t look like he’s doing so well. His dreams have been rotted from within and without, but others not so altruistic.

He’s a broken man. He’s not realized the depths of the betrayals visited upon him quite yet.

Well educated, driven, and yet even he has been played.

The skeleton of dreams never to be realized.

I so love the attention to detail!

Jensen has ferreted some of the truth. Time to bail from Hell.

There will be a reckoning.

Have a great week!

Virtual Tourist – Wolfenstein The New Order 12/3/17

Morning!

Mini Movie Review – Coco

Coco

This film was fabulous! It had a lot of layers and a lot of surprises. Bring some hankies! It truly encapsulates the meaning of the Day of the Dead. Filled with a lot of traditional Mexican songs as well. Go see it!!!!!!  My son-in-law mentioned that there’s some controversy with the Frozen short that comes before the film starts. My hubby and I had to look at each other because the Frozen short was adorable and heartfelt. Despite what some are saying, it does have a plot with consequences! Not sure how they can’t see that. Emotional damage is a consequence. Very weird…

Wolfenstein The New Order

Deathshead in the flesh. This is the point in the game where things actually start getting serious and also proves why it’s not for kids!

This is a nice view of the armored guards. These guys are tough and no longer entirely human. Deathshead is forcing me to choose between two friends. Nasty, nasty man!

To say I or Blazkowics are not conflicted is a significant error.

Got a shock as my remaining friend and I manage to escape. The game went into the beginning credits. Everything up to now was but the stage setting up the actual game. Gasp!

Yep… Very surprising! Lol.

I took shrapnel to the head, so time has progressed as I sit in a kind of limbo. 14 years elapse during a sequence of scene flashes.

I sit in a wheelchair staring out all that time. Being taken care of at this sanitorium. The caretakers there have problems of their own.

They’ve just about killed everyone, and Blazkowicz has come to his senses to take them down and try to rescue the girl!

Open hospital bedding area

Cool vehicle! Also shows the Nazi’s are still wrong. It looks like history has taken a left turn. (Which is true. Germany won the war in this reality!)

Outside view of my home for the last 14 years.

Hope you’re having a great weekend! Until next time!

Virtual Tourist – Deus Ex: Mankind Divided 11/26/17

No mini movie review this week. We celebrate Thanksgiving on multiple days for each side of the family and fighting not to get sick with the temperature and weather changes, so never got a chance to go! 🙁

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Such Such a pretty jet plane. 🙂

Gorgeous sky!

A closeup view of the pilot. Not thrilled at augmented people but he warms up to me…eventually. 😛

Utulek Complex. One of those places that sounds great on paper but then goes horribly wrong.  Being toted as a place augs can get a new start and build their own utopia. Yeah…

Love this plane!!!! The first close up look of Utulek.

The poster says it all. Lol.

Some do try to make the place better. Not that there’s much to work with in this place.

The lost ones.

These guys are not here to “serve and protect” that’s for sure!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and weekend!
