Virtual Tourist – Destroy All Humans 8/30/20

Morning, everyone!

I got woken up in the middle of the night by a giant lightning strike. It looks like some heavy storms rushed through the area last night. It made for a rude awakening. 😛

Destroy All Humans

This game grabbed my attention hard. It’s an amalgamation of all the B movies from my youth with snarky splashes of humor. This time, we are the aliens!

They have a ton of gadgets and powers, and you get to upgrade your small ship! The first mission was full of videos, which got bothersome, but once they are out of the way, the craziness goes on full tilt. 😛

The fundamental premise is that the genetic material from which your race creates clones are degrading. You need new genetic material, and since they made humans from your race, they are an excellent source for what you need!

Destroy All Humans load screenThis is you! This is the image on the loading screen but is a great closeup of who you get to be. His predecessor got his ship damaged and became the Roswell incident. 😛

Destroy All HUmans - One Giant Step on MankindYou can immediately see the snark before you even start! Heh heh. One giant step ON mankind. Hahahahahaha!

Destroy All Humans - crashed shipMy predecessor after getting too close to a missile test. Proof of why we need new genetic material. 😛

Destroy All Humans - the bossMy boss, Pox. He stays safely tucked away in the mother ship. He nags you with orders and general commentary when you are on the ground doing missions.

Destroy All Humans - mothership and single UFOThis gives a good view of the mother ship and my craft. Upgrades as you gain experience. 🙂

Destroy All Monsters - mission cardAll main missions get a postcard like this one. Lol. You have a lot of skills to use based on the power you draw from the humans nearby. The main one is the ability to appear like a human while the actual human goes into limbo. (And yes, we will capture cows to send to the mother ship!)

Destroy All Humans - dumb blondeThis is the winner of the local county fair beauty contest. I lured her away to be taken to the mother ship. The humans around here are dumb as a box of rocks. But they also have itchy trigger fingers. Lol.

Destroy All Humans - view of the small shipFull view of my ship. It has cloaking capabilities, so the natives can’t see it while I am away.

Destroy All Humans - beam me up!I am taking the prize aboard my ship. Mission complete! Bwahahahaha! Further tasks get weirder.

Once you have done the primary missions on a town/area, it opens it up for side visitations. There are hidden robots to find, and some timed items you can struggle through. The more you play, the more of them open up. Some challenges are anything but easy! Taking over the world is hard work. 😛

Have a great week!

Virtual Tourist – The Council 8/16/20

Good morning!

This past week had some bad news – the company I work for has been sold. Closing is expected in three to four months. No one had a clue. The worst part is that in a roundabout way, we were told it’s our own fault. We worked too hard and made the company too attractive, so this other company had to buy us. Go figure…. 😛

I finally got the Landing Pages for the Grand Experiment active. The first is with a specific domain for Alien Redemption here. I created this one with the free MailChimp landing page creator. Some good things about it and some bad, but it’s free, so one can’t really complain. The second is using a WordPress plugin to recreate the page in my primary site. It fought me tooth and nail but finally got it done last night. I never did figure out how to add the MailChimp integration, so had to get creative. (Might only be available on Pro, but the plugin site did not make it clear (or I am blind and I just could not find it! :P) That one you can see here

I’m doing a week of $5 a day with Facebook to see if it will drive traffic to the first one and see if any traction occurs. I will need to get with the publisher to make sure if it converted any sales or not. Then I will try a different venue for the second one. The budget is super low, so I can’t get carried away. But, hopefully, something will work! It would be sad to sell out and cave to some of these more aggressive techniques and still get nowhere. 😛

The Council

The Council - CorridorThe posh corridor on the second floor where all the guest rooms are located.

The Council - Mother's RoomThe room assigned to my mother. Our host likes to theme each guest room with specific art to send a message. Most are not all that nice. 😛

The Council - balconyOpen balcony area outside my room. Several of the rooms share the balcony area, though some are cut off by obstacles you can’t get around. Still, a lovely view, is it not?

The Council - Front DoorThe imposing front door – hell made tangible.

The Council - view from dining areaThis is the view from the dining area. Unlike most dining rooms, this one is open at the end. No rails to impede the view – assuming you dare get that close to the edge. Eek!

The Council - The Edge! All that awaits below should you step too far. 😛

The Council - view of the dining area from outside On the edge of this area, like several other spots, you can allow the game to show you a moving vista of the area or object. This is during that tour and you can now see what the dining area and the house look like from the outside.

The Council - The LibraryThe rounded tower you can see in the picture before this one is where the library you see here is located. In the game, you can only go around one passage, but seeing the whole thing is just amazing. Books! So many books!

The Council - The library - down viewDownview of the library. The place is huge! Not the awesome work on the iron rod walkway. Who wouldn’t want this library! Drool.

The Council - art galleryThe art gallery hallway linked to the library. Note the giant gyroscope – did our host steal that from Alexandria? (See the Virtual Tourist post from 8/2/20. :P) A lot of stuff in this room, in the entire house, appears to be the original works or some darn excellent forgeries.

Thanks for your time! Until next time!

Virtual Tourist – Assassin’s Creed – Origins 5/17/20

Morning!

Tomorrow, I go back into the office for the day job after working from home for over a month and a half. I’ve got mixed feelings about it since there’s so much about Covid-19 we do not understand. It should be an adventure! 😛

 Assassin’s Creed – Origins

Assassin's Creed - Origins

They really did some amazing work on this first tomb.

Assassin's Creed - OriginsIs that a possible way out? The torches have another use, they burn off spiderwebs. Such a neat touch!

Assassin's Creed - OriginsFreedom! Isn’t the column work, gorgeous?

Assassin's Creed - OriginsBayek runs into an old friend.

Assassin's Creed - OriginsTake a note of the cool shields and weapons. They have a large variety to choose from as well as rare and legend categories.

Assassin's Creed - OriginsYou start with a trusty steed – a camel! Harder to drive in town than in the desert. 😛  I dubbed him ‘Roach’ – lol.  Look at all that sand!

Assassin's Creed - OriginsMy first look at Bayek’s home town – Siwa.

Assassin's Creed - OriginsDreadful things have happened in the village over the last year. Sinister dealings at the temple. Note the mysterious orb. (And that gorgeous tile work!) 😛

Please take care out there. A lot of stuff has gone back to ‘normal’ but the disease is still going strong. If we relax too much too soon, the numbers will reach new daily highs. Stay strong and stay safe!

Virtual Tourist – Subnautica 5/5/19

Morning!

No mini movie review this week. Still fighting with some unspecified health issues. I’d hoped they would have figured it out by now, but no such luck. Ugh

Subnautica

New game! (For me, anyway.) It’s a survival/exploration game. Most of it is underwater. You can tone down the number of issues for your survival. I skipped needing food and water. Air seemed hard enough to contend with. 😛

The game is also a mystery story as well. Exploring and trying to find other survivors lead you to clues explaining why you are there and the reasons somethings have happened.

Subnautica - Aurora

This is Aurora a ship belonging to the Altera Corporation. For reasons unknown at the beginning, the ship is about to crash on the planet below.

Subnautica - upper hatch of survival pod

This is a pic of the upper hatch of your escape/survival pod. Half the stuff is not working and your PDA has also suffered data damage. (The PDA houses your inventory, schematics, scan data, locations, and other info.)

Subnautica - Aurora's flaming wreckage

The wreck of the Aurora. Until you get some schematics and improve your diving suit, the area is too radioactive to approach.

Subnautica - first person view

This is the underwater area just beneath the escape capsule. Gorgeous graphics! You can see your health bar and oxygen on the left. Keeping track of your oxygen is SUPER important. 🙂

Subnautica - shallow area flora

Coral, fish, and underwater plants. You have a scanner that you use to gather data. It will also let you know if there’s stuff you can make with it or if it is edible, and more.

Subnautica - escape pod

The outside of the escape pod. You can see the moon peeking behind it.

Subnautica - underwater at night

The shallow area is gorgeous at night! A lot of the plants and fish glow in the dark. So beautiful!

Subnautica - red moon

Night view from the surface of the water. Fires from the Aurora are darkening the view of the moon/planet with smoke.

Subnautica - celestial companions

Celestial companions.

Subnautica - sunrise

Sunrise on the planet. Beautiful but it has its dangers as well.

Have a great week!

The Meg and Starting on a Book Trailer for Alien Redemption!

Morning, all!

I am going to go in a different direction this week. Since my SF novel “Alien Redemption” will be getting published in 2019, I need to start now in getting the word out and doing things to promote it. (With my lack of time, this will be tough! They always say you should start at least nine months in advance. Oi!)

So I figured I would occasionally share what I’m doing to prep for that. Before that though, let’s do our weekly Mini Movie Review! 😛

Mini Movie Review

The Meg The MEG – The beginning of the film was really well done. They set up the hero, give us a glimpse into what has scarred him and then we start five years later. The Mana One and the mini-subs and our descent below the frost level are fantastic. Seeing the first view of this hidden underwater world was great! The whole section there, including the rescue, etc. was well worth it. It’s only once that’s over that it goes into what you initially expected, contrived situations to get people in the water. 😛 Meiying (Sophia Cai) was super adorable! She also adds much to the film. There are loads of familiar faces. Red herrings, weirdness, and more abound. It also has loads of JAWS in-jokes/homage. A million times better than Sharknado. 😛 Rating: 3 out of 5 (Hubby’s Rating: Worth Full Price of Admission)

Alien Redemption – Getting pieces for the Book Trailer pt 1

(And realizing I have not made a page at the website for this one yet. DOH! Something else for the To-Do List! :P)

So the first thing you have to do is try to find photos that somewhat resemble your vision. This could mean hours trolling through the different photo sites to locate those you can purchase rights on to use. I got pretty lucky yesterday and found a lot of what I needed at Adobe Stock.

I will need to do a lot of work on the pics I found, but it’s one step closer to getting the book trailer done. 🙂

Here’s the original I decided to use for the Holiday (Captain Ricardo Bennet’s ship – and the location where many things happen in the first half of the book).

spaceship

I was looking for something that looked like a merchant class ship, and this one filled the need famously.

I needed to add stars and the name of the ship to the photo. Luckily I was able to find a tutorial for how to add a starry sky! Yay!

The Holiday - merchant class

You can’t see the stars on this one. Too shrunk down. You should be able to click on it to get a bigger view. Let me get a different cut as well.

Side Cut of the Holiday

You can see the name and the stars.  It was bizarre how the artist had tapes with H’s on different areas of the hull. Almost like this was destined. No? 😛

Next is Turbic Station:

space station

Not the exact vision in the book, but close is good! It will give you an idea of the place. Turbic Station is at the edge of the Dominion in what is called the Fringes. The last bastion of civilized/charted space. They know it too, and you pay for the privilege. 😛

Currently, I’ve only added stars to the background. May add some neon for the upper area where the exclusive part of the station serves rich clientele wanting to get away from all the restrictions of the civilized worlds.

Turbic Station at the Fringes

Lovely, no? 🙂

I have a ways to go! Had hoped to have a gif ready of the Holiday dashing across the screen, but I need to work on the angles. Maybe next time. 😛

Next week ChibiChains and I will be at Animefest! If you are there, please come to the Dealers Room and say “Hi!”.

Have a great week!

Picture Kaleidoscope – A-kon 2017

Greetings!

I haven’t done one of these in ages! Not that I haven’t been taking pictures, but with the madness that has been the day job for the last couple of years, I’ve not been able to keep up and repost them.

If you want to make sure not to miss any of my con pics, be sure to follow my Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Google+ accounts as I do post them there as I take them. 🙂

A-kon 2017

The obligatory booth pic! A-kon moved to the Fort Worth Convention Center for 2017. So we were trying some new stuff to make the best use of the space as possible. 🙂

Picture Kaleidoscope 12/14/16

It’s been so long since I’ve done a Picture Kaleidoscope post!

Disney Cruise 2016

Civitavecchia (Rome)

The majority of my pics for Rome got accidentally deleted. Only have those I took with my phone. *cry*

After going to the Vatican, our tour guide brought us here for lunch.

Lovely restaurant with tall windows. Even has an upstairs eating area.

After lunch, we went to a section of Rome’s catacombs. No pictures allowed in the tunnels but there were some artifacts we could see before going below.

This is the lovely ceiling in the chapel in the catacombs area. Isn’t the layering and detail amazing?

Gorgeous, no?

Such awesome work!

Have a great day!

Picture Kaleidoscope – Animefest 2016

Yes, still running behind on all things despite my best efforts. Boo!

Lots happening in the next few weeks so posts may be spotty for a little while longer. Wish me luck!

Animefest 2016

Cool new creation from ChibiChains that debuted at the con. 😛

Isn’t he the cutest thing ever? 🙂

Pic of one of our neighbors. She always has the coolest yukatas.

Our next door neighbors. Lovely miniature painting work.

A close look at some of their awesome work.

Love the robot lady on the left!

Don’t mess with the armored fish ladies!

The dress is super adorable! The ponytail clip was the clincher though. LOL!

Rough crowd. Best steer clear. 😛

Funky group! They look awesome! (Ack, there’s so many games and anime I do not know!)

Death by cuteness? Heh heh.

That is one sweet ride! 🙂

Don’t make her angry now!

They look rather dapper, don’t they? Nice!

A gaggle of Mario princesses. Hmmm.

The Monkey King! He looked fabulous!

And look at that hat!

The StarFox Crew!

Miki-chan!

The Gravity Falls crew! Sweet!

That ax is gorgeous!

And look at those ears!

The Full Metal Alchemist crew! Nice!

People and their creativity are just amazing!

Picture Kaleidoscope 8/10/16

Have not done one of these in quite a while. Apologies!
Life has been way too “interesting”. Eek!

Skies around here have been fabulous the last couple of months. See for yourselves! 🙂

Great contrast between the clouds, no? 🙂

Full of hash marks – Heavenly tick tack toe? 😛

Like the heavens were splitting in half – or a dimensional rift? 😛

And what about these pastels? Also love how it splits the sky.

Some neat striation. 🙂

Sunset!

The sun is melting! Melting!

Can you see the cloud UFO? 😛

Loved the cool colors and how the clouds are spread out. Looks almost like a painting. 🙂

Have a fab Wednesday!

Picture Kaleidoscope – SoonerCon 2016

2016 is for some reason just a hard year. Simple things have become difficult – especially software. It is very odd.

Anyway, finally getting the pics uploaded for SoonerCon 2016!
